When Melissa Joulwan of www.theclothesmakethegirl.com contacted me and asked if I’d like to take a look at her new cookbook I was delighted. Melissa always brings a positive and fresh energy to the Paleo topic so I knew this had to be good. The first thing I noticed about her cookbook, is that it is grain, sugar, legume and dairy free. What’s not to love about that right from the get go? It turns out that this is really only the beginning, though, as what follows is a truly unique and well-constructed compendium of beautiful recipes from numerous ethnic traditions (i.e., something for everyone) framed by a wonderful, easy to use and fun format. The photographs are additionally beautiful. It’s quite a package.
The table of contents is neatly and helpfully broken down into various categories such as “Paleo Kitchen” (i.e., what you need to have on hand), Sauces and Seasonings, Protein, Veggies and Salads, Fruits and Resources. She also includes a number of side dish recipes and offers suggestions as to what might be more effectively paired with what. Melissa’s cookbook is filled with little touches that take it beyond the typical recipe format. Virtually no Stone-Age culinary idea left unturned.
I made the “Salmon a l’Afrique Du Nord” just last night. I get a little bored by plain old broiled salmon and wanted to try something new. The result was a unique taste treat I’d look forward to enjoying again any time! In my eagerness to devour this dish I rather shortsightedly failed to take an actual picture of the completed masterpiece as I had initially intended for this blog post. Oops.
Melissa has truly created something special here worthy of any kitchen library…Paleo or otherwise.

Nora,
For any person struggling to keep the Paleo diet interesting, this cookbook is a life saver. I have made several of the recipes and every one has turned out great. Melissa Joulwan keeps things spicy, interesting and the sidebars are hilarious and heartfelt. I actually look like an accomplished chef when I use this book.
Also, try The Primal Blueprint Cookbook by Mark Sisson. I don’t know what I would do without these cookbooks. I am just not that creative in the kitchen so I am very thankful!
P.S. Nora, I loved your book, too! I am just feeling so much better.
